Eliminating the Chase
Come with me, and let us explore what you have always been missing.
Let us explore that feeling of emptiness within you.
Let us explore that feeling of dissatisfaction within you.
You know the one.
The feeling that lingers.
The feeling that drives you to chase.
The feeling that drives you to hustle.
The feeling that drives you to seek more.
Please, for a moment, be honest with yourself:
WHY do you want to achieve the goal you are so desperately working for?
Better yet; What are you hoping it will give you? What hole do you wish it to fill? What feeling do you hope it will bring?
This will be uncomfortable. I know.
But if you let it, it has the power to transform.
Think back to your last achievement.
The last moment of pride and satisfaction you felt within yourself.
How long did that feeling last?
A week?
A night?
Five minutes?
How long did the sense of pride and satisfaction last before it wore off?
And the regularly scheduled program of hustle and grind resumed?
You see, you have already achieved goals that you told yourself would bring you happiness.
You have already achieved goals that you told yourself would make you feel ‘good enough.’
Yet here you are,
Still chasing,
Still striving,
Still suffering in your pursuit of…
The next thing.
If you believe this is the natural endeavor of a human being,
A natural part of what it means to be human,
And this is just ‘how it is,’
Then stop reading now.
If you are one of the rare few who actually wish to arrive at an ultimate destination,
Who wish to arrive at a place free of chasing, striving, and suffering,
Who wish to arrive at a place of permanent peace and satisfaction,
Read on.
I don’t point out the short-lived sense of pride and satisfaction to insult you, dishearten you, or say that achievements are meaningless.
Only to point out the futility of our efforts to get to the place we ultimately want.
To point out that what you say you want, and work for, is only a surrogate for what you truly want.
To point out something that no one has ever told you:
There is an alternative.
I’ll ask you again to consider these questions:
WHY do you want to achieve the goal you are so desperately working for?
What are you hoping it will give you? What hole do you wish it to fill? What feeling do you hope it will bring?
From this, you may answer these questions:
What is the ultimate destination where you would no longer feel the need to chase, and to strive? How much is truly enough?
What is the feeling you ultimately want, where you would no longer feel the need to chase anything? Where you could drop all the pursuits that you strive for out of the hope it will provide this feeling.
What would you do every day for the rest of your life to bring yourself permanent satisfaction? The things you would pursue not to ‘get somewhere’ or ‘achieve something’ but out of pure joy, obsession, and curiosity.
What are the conditions that would make it inevitable for you to feel permanent peace and satisfaction?
Now we’re getting somewhere.
When you start asking these kinds of questions,
When you begin aiming at an arrival at an ultimate destination, you realize something:
When this ultimate destination becomes the thing to aim at, it is less about ‘doing things’ and more about dropping all the empty chases you once worked so hard for.
Once you have this clear in front of you, whether it’s permanent peace, freedom, satisfaction, or happiness,
The question becomes;
What is preventing me from feeling 100% that way right now?
At first, the mind will be quick to point out all the external validation points you have been striving for. That’s okay.
We know now that this is the trap of the mind - to keep you striving for that external goal in the hope of attaining that feeling.
We know this never works.
This only keeps us on the hamster wheel.
This is like chasing the horizon - it is always on the horizon.
Let me share a secret: When the horizon disappears, peace arrives.
Let me say that again.
When the horizon disappears, peace arrives.
At SuccessLab, we don’t hope.
We orchestrate the inevitable arrival of success.
As you continue asking this key question: “What is preventing me from feeling 100% X right now?”
And you continue to explore beyond the external validation points,
The true mental barriers arise.
What they are, I cannot say, because I do not know you.
They are unique to every individual.
But one thing is the same:
The 'way' is not by trying to get rid of your mental barriers.
The way is exploring the mental barriers openly and curiously, to the depth of understanding that the problem no longer has any effect over you.
This sounds strange, I know.
You want a technique, a strategy, a five-step plan, a meditation method, a life-hack.
I have none to give you.
All I can say is this:
When you understand something at the sufficient level,
Whether it’s another human being, an emotion, or a negative story you tell yourself,
It stops affecting you.
How do you know you have understood it at a sufficient level?
When it no longer affects you.
You see, when you learn ‘stress management techniques’ or ‘mindfulness methods’ or ‘gratitude journaling’ you are not really addressing the issue.
You’re only trying to suppress it or ignore it.
When you seek to understand the issue,
And reach the sufficient level of understanding of it,
The issue is not ‘fixed,’
It is not ‘dealt with,’
It is not ‘made better,’
It is dissolved.
When all issues preventing you from permanent peace, freedom, and satisfaction are sufficiently understood,
Permanent peace, freedom, and satisfaction are yours.
