Overcoming Performance Anxiety: Techniques to Conquer Your Inner Demons

Anxiety is a thief.

It robs athletes of their potential, casting shadows over their abilities.

The roots of performance anxiety are not external but internal.

They lie in the fear of failure, the dread of criticism, the desire to protect one's self-image.

Stress and anxiety are illusions.

They are constructs of the mind, fed by the need for validation and the fear of judgment.

Understanding this is the first step to dissolving their power.

The truth is, these emotions are self-created.

Traditional methods are band-aids.

Mindfulness, meditation, and CBT address symptoms, not causes.

True relief comes from understanding the source of these emotions.

The conscious mind's desires lead to fear and stress.

Letting go of these desires is the path to freedom.

Am I saying to not want to win?

No.

I would not dare strip you of your desire for winning & being a champion.

What I will say is this:

As long as you have the desire, you will have its opposite.

As long as you have the desire to play well, you will have the anxiety of making mistakes.

As long as you have the desire to win, you will have the fear of losing.

As long as you have the desire to be selected or accepted, you will have the fear of judgement & criticism.

The Law of Polarity is a Truth to be Understood for the Athlete who wishes to be free of Turmoil.

How do you step off this cyclical rollercoaster?

How do you let go of the desire for winning?

Explore what you're really winning.

Explore what you're really desiring.

Here is a Truth: There is no joy in the finite, only the infinite.

And winning, as we know, is as finite as it comes.

The high of success fades within days, while the pain of striving can be years in the making.

If you cannot have it today, you will NEVER have it.

But I can tell you this Truth: What you are really Desiring, can be had Today.

This is the greatest moment as a coach, when you see the weight being lifted from their shoulders as they come to the realization of what they were truly seeking all along.

And that it was within their grasp this entire time.

When you begin to seek inside, the need to find, the search, is over.

Performance anxiety is a barrier.

It stands between the athlete and their true potential.

Recognizing its origins is the key to overcoming it.

The truth is liberating.

Mastery over anxiety is mastery over the mind.

It is the realization that fear is an illusion, a self-imposed barrier.

It is the realization that fear is a consequence of desire.

It is the realization that the initial desire is not the True Desire.

In understanding and letting go, there is freedom.

In freedom, there is peak performance.

To Your Success,

Alec.
