The Truth of Patience v Impatience
We have two sides to this thing about patience.
One half of the gurus out there tell you to be "patient with results", "learn to enjoy the process", "enjoy the journey" etc. etc.
The other half of the gurus are the hardcore red pill "URGENCY!" "Do it Now or NEVER!" Motivational, hyped up, 4-hour morning routine, ice bath dwelling gurus.
It's not that the latter is worse, I just find them easier to poke fun at.
Anyway...
Each side is as loud as each other. We are constantly pulled between the two, like a never-ending rollercoaster. So, what's the Truth?
The Truth is... the issue is not whether you are patient or impatient.
The Truth is... the issue has never been about patience.
The Truth is, the Turmoil you feel is caused by FORCING yourself to be one or the other. What side that is, doesn't matter.
The Turmoil you feel is from Forcing yourself to be what you are not.
It all stems from this one Truth: We are Patient for the things we do not really want, and impatient for the things we truly desire most.
Most of the time we force ourselves to be impatient for the things that we don't really want.
THAT is when we need motivation, and discipline, and hype, and routine, and ALL the things we are taught by self-help.
They are all signs of Force.
Think about when you Truly want something.
The thing you want more than anything else in the world.
Why on Earth would you want patience for that?
You want it NOW!
You don't need motivation, or discipline, or hype to work toward that goal.
You naturally love the process.
You naturally love the work.
And even when you don't, you still want the result so desperately that it doesn't matter.
We are Patient for the things we do not really want, and impatient for the things we truly desire most.
When you truly, desperately want something, forcing yourself to be patient because some guy on the internet told you to, is the very thing that causes you turmoil. The stress is NOT from being impatient, it's from forcing yourself to be patient when you are not.
Likewise, when you don't truly want something, forcing yourself to be impatient and urgent because some guy on the internet told you to, is the very thing that causes you turmoil.
So, when it comes to patience vs impatience.
It's not a question of which side of the fence you sit on.
It's not a question of how do you force yourself to act urgently, or how do you force yourself to be more patient and enjoy the journey more.
It's a question of what do you Truly want?
Find THAT, and urgency, action, motivation, discipline, energy, joy, will ALL be a NATURAL by-product.
If you're forcing yourself to have discipline, and urgency, and you have to get yourself motivated, you don't really want it. It's that simple.
Now, if you are someone who desperately wants something.
Who works day and night immersed in your craft.
OBSESSED.
And you have people telling you to 'slow down', and 'enjoy the journey more', and 'practice patience'.
I am giving you the permission to ignore them.
I am giving you the permission to BE urgent, to BE impatient, to chase that goal with Fire in your heart.
Your Source of Turmoil does not come from the stress of chasing your goal, it comes from listening to the advice of others telling you to slow down and be patient.
The only people that will tell you to be more patient are the people who have either never found what sets their soul on fire, or gave up on it for a more "reasonable" goal.
Do not listen to them.
If the desire naturally arises within you. Do not ignore it. Do not dim your flame. Let it turn into a bonfire.
