The Unseen Freedom: Choosing Peace Over Ego

"In a world constantly buzzing with noise, competition, and the relentless pursuit of more, there lies an unknown freedom—one can simply refuse the ego's investment in the world and thoughts about it. This surrender to a higher order reveals a peace that is ever present and available".

Have you ever stopped to consider the power you hold in the simple act of choice? Every day, we're faced with decisions that shape our lives in significant ways, yet, often, we overlook the simplest and most profound choice of all: the choice between peace and the ego's relentless demands.

In a professional context, this choice manifests in various scenarios. Whether it's deciding between collaboration or competition, humility or pride, or short-term gains versus long-term value, the foundation of these decisions rests on whether we let our egos lead or whether we step back, allowing a greater sense of peace and purpose to guide us.

Choosing peace over the ego doesn't mean passivity or lack of ambition. It means aligning your actions with values that foster inner satisfaction and true success. It simply means choosing peace over everything else. It means not being swayed by every trend or opinion, but rather, making decisions that are true to your core values and beneficial not just for you but for your community and industry at large.

Here are a couple practical steps to cultivate this choice:

  1. Reflect daily: Make no mistake, this is a CONSTANT battle. If you do not remind yourself of who you want to be, what you are working toward, and WHY, your mind, your ego, will very quickly retreat back to comfort. Intention matters. Take time each day to disconnect from the constant information flow and reflect on your actions and decisions. Are they ego-driven or peace-oriented?

  2. Prioritize long-term value: Focus on what brings lasting value to your life and work, rather than what offers immediate but fleeting satisfaction. What do you want to do everyday for the rest of your life? What are the things that people are STILL going to want in 10-years time? (from the man Bezos himself). As Naval says; All self-help boils down to "make long-term decisions."

For the next 7 days, challenge yourself to make one decision each day that prioritizes peace over ego. You might be surprised by how this small change can lead to more significant satisfaction and success.

As we navigate our professional lives, let's remind ourselves of the unknown freedom that comes from choosing peace. It’s a choice that not only defines our character but also determines the depth and durability of our success.

Remember, Success is What & Who You Are. Not what you Have or what you Do.

What decision will you make today to choose peace over the ego?

To Your Success,

Alec.
